Islamabad: A top leader of Awami National Party (ANP) and Senior Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bashir Ahmad Bilour was killed by a Taliban suicide bomber in Peshawar. His Personal Secretary Noor Muhammad , a police officer Abdul Sattar and eight others killed in the attack.
According to details, the blast took place when senior leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour along with the provincial leadership and workers of the ANP had gathered for a party meeting in Dhaki Nalbandi area near historical Qissa Khawani bazaar of Peshawar.
Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan, claimed the responsibility for the blast and Bilour’s assassination.
“We claim responsibility for killing Bashir Ahmed Bilour. It is revenge for the martyrdom of our elder Sheikh Naseeb Khan”
Sheikh Naseeb Khan was A religious scholar and teacher of Darul Uloom Haqania.
Sheikh naseeb khan was found dead in nowshera on may 2012. then Taliban blamed the provincial government and intelligence agencies for the killing of sheikh naseeb khan.
Darul Uloom Haqania is madrassa in akora khatak near peshwar where from many Pakistani and afghan Taliban leaders got the education. Taliban ameer Mullaha Mohmmad Umar also got his education from the same madrassa.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf announced one-day mourning. The KP and Balochistan governments have declared three-day mourning while the Punjab and Sindh government announced one-day mourning.
Senior Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bashir Ahmad Bilour was a big critic of Thrik Taliban Pakistan and Taliban also openly had announced that they will kill the minister and Taliban attacked twice before in which basher ahmand bilour was escaped.
Although Taliban has killed hundreds of ANP workers but Basher Ahmad Bilour is the second high profile leader which has killed by Taliban before that the son of the information minister of Khyber pakhtunkhwa Mian Rashid Hussain was also killed by Taliban in 2010.
Taliban had announced in the past that they will target ANP and MQM because of their secular views and their enmity towards the Taliban.
Basher ahamd Bilour was born on August 1, 1943, in Peshawar. He passed out from the Government Higher Secondary School Peshawar Cantonment in 1958, and in 1965 graduated from the prestigious University of Peshawar with an LLB degree.
Basher Ahmad Bilour had a bachelors degree in law. He was a member of Peshawar High Court Bar as a lawyer and took part in the active politics from the platform of Awami National Party since 1970.
Bilour has also served as the provincial president of the ANP two times in his career.
He won the provincial assembly elections five times in a row: in 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2008 elections.
He belongs to a political family his elder brother haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour is a Railway Minister in the present federal government. On of his brother Ilyas Ahmad Bilour is a member of senate of Pakistan. And his third brother Aziz Ahmad Bilour is a Federal Secretary. He got married in 1969, and have two sons and three daughters.
