Islamabad: Senior Hurriyat leader and Democratic Freedom Party Vice President Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a joint letter to world human rights bodies and world leaders has urged them to take effective cognizance of threats to incarcerated Party Chairman Shabir Ahmed Shah’s life in Tihar Jail.
The communiqué said, “It is a matter of grave concern that Shabir Ahmed Shah has been left at the mercy of criminals and ruffians lodged in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail. A few incidents have happened with him in jail as well as in the judicial lock-up, which speak volumes about the insecurity and perpetual threat to his life”.
Despite repeated requests to shift him (Shah) to high risk ward in order to ensure his safety and security Saghar maintained that jail authorities seemed insensitively unmoved and have blatantly ignored all the requests in this regard. Shah he said is suffering from various ailments and being a diabetic patient he is not even allowed to take proper medicine. “Shah’s health has been severely deteriorated and authorities are deliberately playing with his life”, Saghar said adding that pitiable living conditions and lack of proper medication & regular medical check-up have adversely affected his welfare besides endangering his life.
Referring to the nerve-racking atmosphere in Tihar jail Saghar said that the nasty encounters, perpetual threat and uncongenial environmental factors have further endangered the life of DFP Chairman, who is suffering from multiple ailments.
Urging the world human rights organizations to take effective notice of the matter Mehmood Ahmed Saghar appealed HR watchdogs to use their good offices to ensure security and early release of the incarcerated leader and other political activists who have been languishing in various jails in and outside the occupied territory over past several years.
In a separate letter to the Secretary Generals of the UN and OIC, Saghar expressed grave concern over the continuous detention and the deteriorating health condition of party chairman Shabir Ahmed Shah and asked them to intervene and influence Indian authorities to shift him to safer place besides pressuring the government of India to release all political detainees who have been languishing in jails in and outside Kashmir.
