Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Saturday that the country needed determined and ambitious young people for its development, progress and stability.
The President, who is also patron of Riphah International University, was addressing at the 12th convocation of the university. He congratulated the university administration on securing 2nd position in HEC’s general category private sector universities’ ranking. He hoped that the faculty and management of the university would continue their endeavour to make it an exemplary institution for others.
The President said that it was also imperative to provide employment opportunities to the youth . China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a blessing in this regard and our youth need to equip themselves with latest trends in science and technology, trade and industry to benefit from these emerging opportunities.
Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, in his speech, said that since its inception in 2002, Riphah had been progressively involved in imparting quality education and knowledge across all disciplines, due to which, he said, it achieved 2nd Position in private sector universities.
The chairman while congratulating the graduating students said that it was only an opening to the new world, as their success would be measured by the capabilities achieved during their education.
He highlighted that multiple factors of extremism had been prevailing among academic institutions over the last few years which needed to be eradicated at every cost. He said that it was the time for our young blood to work together as one nation for better future of our upcoming generations.
The chancellor, Hassan Muhammad Khan, in his address reminded the students that acquisition of knowledge did not end with obtaining a degree. It is a continuous process and with hard work, the graduates should be able to cope with the new challenges in their practical life, he said.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Dr Anis Ahmed in his address he highlighted the university’s achievements since its inception. The latest of these achievements is recognition of its engineering programme at international level under the Washington Accord, he said, adding that the Riphah University had also achieved landmark success by obtaining APQN Quality Assurance Award for maintaining high standards of education and discipline.
More than 900 graduates, post graduates and PhD students of the university from various faculties including faculty of health and medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, management sciences, engineering and applied sciences, computing, social sciences and humanities, basic sciences, media science, systems engineering and public policy were awarded degrees at the convocation.
Twenty eight Zulfiqar gold medals and 55 chancellor gold medals were awarded to the graduates and post graduates for obtaining top positions in the examinations and securing distinction for their best performance in the academic field in various disciplines.
