Srinagar: The lawyers club Kashmir has decided to boycott all programmes in Pakistan unless it clears its stand about the organizing the Mirpur conference. The conference was announced by District Bar Association (DBA) Mirpur on January 21 in which DBA has invited at least 28 leading lawyers of Indian controlled Jammu & Kashmir. Commenting on the list of invitees the Spokesman of lawyers club Kashmir (LCK) Iftikhar Ahmad advocates said we believe that Kashmir can be debated anywhere but when invitations come from Pakistan and that too without application of mind is seriously going to hurt our expectations. We believe in freedom of speech and expression, we believe in debate in between different shades of society and we believe in democratic mindset but if these expressions and thoughts are used to humiliate Kashmiri people who have suffered in conflict are unacceptable to us.
We believe that Azaad Kashmir has a role of base camp for freedom struggle of Kashmir but people from occupied Kashmir felt betrayed by elites of Azaad Kashmir since 1990 and specifically during last six months of bloodbath. We never saw any protest or programme by Mirpur Bar during last six months of bloodbath and now they have decided to hold a conference and invite our killers from Indian occupied Kashmir. Iftikhar Ahmad advocates said we are already thinking about the students of Azaad Kashmir University who are seriously in trouble because of non application of mind by the authorities who were sending students to Azaad Kashmir University without understanding the impact of this process on the career of students. We appeal all the conscious people in Azaad Kashmir and Pakistan to take this initiative seriously so that people in occupied are not further hurt and disappointed.
on Sunday the District Bar Association (DBA) Mirpur president Zulfiqar Ahmed Raja said, “The objective of holding of the scheduled congregation of the legal fraternity from both the sides of the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir (AJK and IOK) is to attract the immediate attention of the international community for its due role for the early peaceful settlement of the lingering Kashmir issue, said.
