Islamabad: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) president Abdul Rauf Alam, President ECO Chamber of Commerce expressed his deep sorrow over the sad demise of the President Uzbekistan Islam Karimov who died on Friday at the age of 78. In his condolence message FPCCI president said that the death of Islam Karimov is a national loss of Uzbekistan which is a populous nation of Central Asia.
He said that Islam Karimov was the most populous leader of Central Asia who served his Uzbek nation entire life and took his country on the right path of economic and social prosperity and integration of Central Asian economies. His services will always be remembered in ECO region.
He offered condolence and prayed for the rest of his departed soul in eternal peace and gives strength to the entire Uzbek nation to bear this irreparable loss and expressed solidarity with Uzbek nation at this tough time of grief.
Karimov remained the Uzbek president for 26 years. He died after being hospitalized several days ago. According to analysts there will be no change of the regime in Uzbekistan after the death of their president, and whoever is next to lead the country will follow the same path.
Nadejda Atayeva, who is the head of the Association for Human Rights in Central Asia, said the most likely successors to President Islam Karimov are two high ranking officials, Shavkat Merzyaev and Rustam Azimov.
