Firdous Ahmed Shah Chairman Democratic Political Movement in his statement from Srinagar has appealed the people of Anantnag and Srinagar people not to caste their vote in so-called parliamentary by- election and support bycott call given by joint hurriyat leaders, to tell the world that these sham elections are in no way a substitute to the right of self determination guaranteed to them by UNO. Underscoring the importance of boycotting the sham election, shah said that India has been projecting these elections as a referendum and misled the world community that people of Jammu and Kashmir have exercised their right of vote feeling themselves safe with India.
Shah urged the international community to come forward and take practical steps to support the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for securing their right to self-determination.
Shah welcomed the US offer for playing an active role for mediation in facilitating talks between Pakistan and India and condemned the New Delhi’s act of turning down the US offer. Shah stressed upon India to give up the intransigensic attitude and address the ground realities regarding the resolution of Kashmir issue and give people of the state right to exercise their vote regarding the future of the state as per the UN resolutions.
