Chinese president inspects military parade in show of might

Islamabad: Chinese President Xi Jinping, while addressing People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on commemorating its 90th anniversary has tout the need to build a world-class army capable of defeating all invading enemies at a military parade held on Sunday, Radio Pakistan reported.

Wearing his mottled green uniform as Commander in Chief of the People’s Liberation Army, Mr. Xi watched as 12,000 troops marched and tanks, long- and range missile launchers, jet fighters other new weapons drove or flew past in at the Zhurihe military training base in China’s Inner Mongolia region.

“We need to build a strong people’s military more than any other time in history,” Xi said as he inspected troops, armored vehicles, missiles and aircraft, hailing each formation by shouting “Comrades, you’ve worked hard!”

The forces addressed him as “Chairman Xi” as they rumbled past. The parade was blanketed by state media coverage and streamed for foreign audiences on YouTube, which is blocked inside China.

“The world is not all at peace. Peace must be safeguarded adding that today we are closer than ever before to the goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and — more than any other time in history — we need to build a strong people’s military.”
