Islamabad: While condemning the PSA slapped on Chairperson DEM Asiya Indrabi and her secretary Fahmida Sofi, the Secretary General Democratic Political Movement (DPM) Shaukat Hussain Butt has demanded an immediate release of both the leaders.
According to the statement, while expressing serious concerns over DeM chief’s perpetual detention Butt said that after worsening health condition of Aysia there was no reason whatsoever to place her behind the bars under infamous Public Safety Act (PSA). Terming it as flagrant violation of basic human rights, the DPM leader said that instead of providing basic healthcare facilities to the ailing leader the Indian authorities in sheer vengeance shifted Indrabi and Sofi to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu wherein extremely adverse climate could further aggravate the detainees’ health condition.
He said that Indrabi, who was kept on oxygen in the Rambagh Police station few days ago, has been suffering from multiple ailments and needs specialized medical consultation. Flaying Indian authorities’ callousness and ruthless attitude towards the women folk, Butt said, ” Shifting Indirabi and her secretary to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu was tantamount to putting their lives in danger”. He said that their only sin was to raise the voice against Indian illegal occupation on Kashmir. “This is extremely shameful and highly condemnable on part of the so-called authorities”, he added.
Butt also demanded immediate release of Masarrat Aalam, Bashir Indrabi and hundreds of other illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists. “Those arrested during the mass uprising in 2016 are still languishing in different jails and police stations and their detention period is being prolonged on one pretext or the other”, he said adding that scores of detainees were in unlawful custody and police were reluctant to produce them in any court.
Butt also appealed the world human rights bodies to take cognizance of the matter and use their good offices to secure immediate release of the Kashmiri detainees.
